Ahlan wa sahlan! Welcome!
This is the homepage of YALLA e. V.
YALLA e.V. is a organisatioin founded by young people, who support the different self-help projects in arabian countries.
YALLA e. V. was founded by young people who met Sister Maria Grabis during their summer holidays in 1988. Sister Maria Theresia Grabis has been working for poor people in a religious order in Cairo for more than 20 years. Sister Maria drew the attention of the young people to ASMAE (Association for Social and Medical Action and Education).
ASMAE supports different self-help projects in Africa and Asia and offers the possibility to take part in work-camps or long-term commitments. The young students wanted to realize this idea in Germany and organized the first work-camp in the rubbish-town Moytamadea to the north-west of Cairo in 1989.
The participants of this work-camp decided to carry on with the project and founded the registered association YALLA in 1992. Every month the members of YALLA meet to exchange ideas and to plan activities.
